KSRTC buses in the state are getting a makeover with new security features including cameras, a GPS tracking system, automated ticketing machines, and a digital display. In the first phase of the ambitious project, 200 buses in Thiruvanathapuram will have these features installed in it.

The initiative is estimated to cost around Rs 30 crore for KSRTC.

The camera enables monitoring of the behaviour of passengers and the staff. Further, it could capture the traffic violation and mistakes from part of the staff. The cameras installed on the dashboard capture images of those inside and outside the bus.

Additionally, the android based electronic ticket distribution system will replace the existing machine used in KSRTC. This system enables passengers to use debit/credit, wallet, and travel cards instead of cash.

The passengers' information system guides the travellers to be informed about their travel destination, bus stops, and others. LED screens will be installed along with speakers to inform passengers inside the bus. The initiative is undertaken to bring together KSRTC under Integrated Command and Control Centre.

The facilities are installed with the help of 'Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited' as per the direction of the central government.
