Vehicle mounted cameras will be installed on fire tenders to be purchased under the Smart City mission.

For keeping a check on movement of MC vehicles, the civic officials are planning to install GPS in each of them, including officials’ cars. Besides GPS, vehicle mounted cameras will be installed on fire tenders to be purchased under the Smart City mission.

MC commissioner Shena Aggarwal was given a presentation on upcoming Smart City projects. The officials claimed that in the coming days, Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) will become operational and everything will be connected on one platform.

An official said, “GPS will help monitor the movement of MC vehicles and check staff excuses. The ICCC will be gradually connected with each civic amenity, besides MC vehicles. Already 1,400 cameras are installed in the city under the Safe City project. Three-hundred more will be set up.”

All the cameras will help the civic body keep a check on encroachments and garbage lifting, among others. The officials claimed that the trial run has been done and the centre’s inauguration is awaited.

MC superintending engineer Rahul Gagneja said, “Fire tenders that are to be purchased can be equipped with GPS while receiving the delivery. The vehicle mounted cameras are to be purchased for fire tenders. When firemen will drive the tenders, the cameras will capture the route too. We can check at ICCC whatever is happening on the road.”

The civic body has many vehicles, including officials’ cars, garbage lifting vehicles, fogging vehicles, trolleys, loaders, road rollers, among others. Many times there are allegations against employees of misusing or wasting fuel. Once vehicles are fitted with GPS, these things can be checked. It was planned around two years ago, too, but could not fructify.
