With the joint efforts of Kanpur Smart City and Kanpur City Transport Service Ltd, a mobile application ‘e-bus Kanpur’ is being designed to provide better transport facility to the public.

The application will enable passengers to track buses through a real time GPS map and will also help them to check bus timings, speed and even number and time of stoppages. Passengers will be able to share suggestions and issues related to the bus services with the management through the app.

On Wednesday, senior officials, led by divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar, conducted a trial of the app. The officials started the journey on e-bus from the divisional commissioner’s camp office, testing all application features while travelling from Rawatpur to Company Bagh intersection.

During the trial, the commissioner checked the live location of electric buses displayed in the application at major intersections. “The application will be made available in the market by February 10,” said Shekhar.

At present, about 100 e-buses are operational, while 270 will be plying in the city soon. “A total of 247 intersections are marked as e-bus stops in Kanpur, of which only 70 to 80 are ready. The rest are yet to be turned into proper bus stops, however, the buses halt regularly at all 247 bus stops,” said a senior official.

The commissioner also directed the Municipal Corporation, City Transport Corporation, Public Works Department and Smart City to construct the remaining bus stops in the next six months and to arrange signages, shelters and information boards at appropriate points in the next 15 days.

During the trial, the additional municipal commissioner Suryakant Tripathi, additional chief executive officer (Kanpur Smart City Ltd) DV Singh, chief operating officer (Kanpur City Transport Service Ltd) along with the technical team of Kanpur Smart City, IT-PMU team and Tech Mahindra’s team were present on the occasion.
