Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said the Integrated Command Centre (ICC) for Shillong will soon be inaugurated as part of the Smart City Project.
Speaking on the sidelines of a programme here, the CM said the centre, which will be located next to the Shillong Technology Park, will be monitoring the entire security and traffic arrangements for Shillong.
“There will be close to 300 CCTVs across the city and further, other towns will be connected to it and this will be a complete integrated command centre and we are hopeful that the work will be completed soon,” Sangma added.
He also said the state government will also be looking to extend the command centre even to the district headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) has decided to intensify its checking to thwart under-age driving by school children, most of whom do not have driving licence.
Concerns have been raised from time to time about the safety of the pedestrians and other drivers due to the reckless driving by these underage children.
“We urge parents not to encourage underage children to drive. Heavy fines will be imposed against children without driving licence and action will be taken against such offenders,” SP (City) Vivek Syiem said.
Meanwhile, as a follow up measure, rumble strips have been added to the spot outside Anton hall gate after Thursday’s road accident.
Syiem said they will need to review where zebra crossings should be designated and where signage should be put up.
“We will take up the matter with the PWD,” he said.
