Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Information and Communication Technology (SCICT), His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, chaired SCICT’s 14th meeting, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa. The meeting  reviewed  the shift towards digital economy as a national strategy adopted the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), which was commissioned to prepare a study on this important field and future directions for its development through adopting the best practices and seeking international expertise.<

The committee approved the report on the achievements and statistics of the e-government 2019 programme, which highlighted the development of 40 online services and completion of seven governmental systems, in addition to activating new payment mechanisms using the eWallet, as well as activating cash payment. The report also indicated that payments through all online channels exceeded 1.6 million transactions, worth more than BD56 million, as the number of visits to the national portal reached about eight million, and the number of smart applications’ users rose to about 184,000 per month and over nine million transactions during the past year.

Regarding the results of the measurement of customer satisfaction with electronic services carried out by iGA in co-operation with the University of Bahrain, the committee was informed that the general awareness on online services had reached 93 per cent, the level of their use 74pc, and customer satisfaction 77pc, according to the the American standard, which exceeds the global average in the field. HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa expressed his appreciation to the Information and eGovernment Authority on the positive accomplishments achieved during the last period, stressing the need to achieve the goals and aspirations of the government in this vital and important filed.
