He stated that introduction of Salik top-up as the first system to be covered by Mobile Payment System would be widely received since topping-up of Salik account is a recurrent business for motorists in Dubai, particularly under Phase II of the Toll Gate System.
Al Tayer made these remarks while touring RTA Stand at Gitex 2008; where RTA is taking part in this event for the third time running. RTA participation spans a number of online services offered to the public, customers and clients of all RTA agencies.
RTA Service packages to be exhibited in Stand No 7 - E2, t Gallery No. 7 spans services related to traffic & roads, rail, marine transport, public transport, licensing and others. It is the intention of the RTA to provide integrated multi-modal transport, and have in place a smooth, secure and sustainable transport system, in implementation of its vision of providing safe & smooth transport for all.
Al Tayer noted that RTA participation in this distinctive annual event by saying: "RTA participation underscores the importance attached to this event as an opportunity to showcase RTA e-services targeting the public in general and road users & motorists in particular. Introduction of such services is in line with the development witnessed by Dubai in all fields, including the electronic drive fostered by Dubai e-Government, with a view to processing all transactions in a transparent and speedy manner.
"RTA participation in Gitex 2008 spans almost all affiliated agencies. Among the services to be showcased in the Expo is a service for paying parking fees suing the mobile phone (m-Parking); whereby the user may pay parking fees by sending an SMS to a designated service number. The service is currently being tested in conjunction with telecommunication operators in the UAE, and will be gradually generalized over the next months.
"RTA will also offer a service of topping up the accounts of Toll Gate Systems (Salik) through the mobile phone (Salik Mobile Payment), whereby subscribers can use their mobile phones to top up their Salik accounts or inquire about the account balance. The service requires signing up to mPay Portal of Dubai e-Government. Visitors of RTA Stand will also be able to review Salik online services covering balance inquiry, various reports of toll gate usage by vehicle registered by the user and account top up using e-payments" he added.
During his tour of RTA Stand, Al Tayer was briefed by Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of RTA Corporate Support Services Sector, who reiterated RTA keen attention to broaden the range of services offered through Traffic & Roads Agency, and that more e-services will be announced to customers by various departments such as Parking, Right of Way, and Roads. Such services will offer users the convenience of having their transactions processed through RTA portal.
He added: "Following the deployment of large numbers of various types of public buses - such as standard buses, articulated buses and double deck buses - and the increased bus occupancy, Public Transport Agency is offering an extensive range of e-services. These include Automated Vehicle Movement (AVM) to track vehicle movement on roads, wireless internet and other integrated online system on board these new buses.
"Dubai Taxi will be represented through offering SMSTaxi service, as a further gesture from the Agency to introduce distinguished services to customers and enable them to book taxis easily. The services does not require specific registration procedures, but rather based on SMS technology. The user may send an SMS showing the number of the zone mentioned on the respective sign of this service to the number 4774. This service is linked to the Booking & Deployment System and the application will be directly transmitted to the system to locate an unoccupied vehicle; which will immediately directed to the requestor.
Dubai Taxi Agency will also launch the e-Booking services (WebTaxi); where customers can now book a taxi online within a few minutes' time. This service is so simple that the customer is only required to sign up his or her bio data (name, address, mobile phone number ...etc). Following that a temporary password will be sent to the customer in an SMS, to be used for accessing the website and start booking a taxi; which will arrive to the address quoted on the stated time.
Al Madani further commented: "RTA will also be making presentations about the pioneer Dubai Metro Project; which will be launched in less than a year; which is known as the longest driverless metro system worldwide and the first of its kind in the region. Various RTA agencies will be showcasing their products, including Marine Agency and Licensing Agency; which will offer pioneer services to serve the community in general and RTA customers in particular.
"Besides the sophisticated services and programmes offered, RTA will also make a series of presentations including the state-of-the-art intelligent traffic systems and other electronic events offered to visitors of RTA stand from 11.00 am up to 05.00 pm. These include the automatic control of the driverless Dubai Metro trains, Salik system, distinguished vehicle number plates, intelligent traffic systems, management of customer flow, mobile parking, drivers testing, simulators, IT outsourcing, and the introduction of Green IT technology in the RTA.
