Chinese Mobile Operators are Leaders in the Global Roll-out of Mobile IoT-Based Solutions Making Use of Mobile Networks; China is presently the Largest IoT Market on the globe With close to 1 Billion Connections

GMSA announced today that Chinese mobile operators are leaders in the world when it comes to the deployment of transformative Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

By linking the estimated 960 million devices through cellular networks, the country has begun to recognize the value of the IoT and the rapidly changing society via mass market deployments of smart industry, smart home, as well as smart city solutions.

In accordance to GSMA Intelligence, China remains the world’s largest IoT market, having 64 per cent of the 1.5 billion global cellular connections which includes the quickly increasing Mobile IoT licensed LPWA technologies2.

Alex Sinclair, Chief Technology Officer, GSMA revealed that since China is backed by a highly functional government support, China is currently at the forefront in the mass deployment as well as development of creative and transformative IoT-based solutions, on the basis of Mobile IoT technology. The new technologies are now being implemented through several different vertical sectors basically adjusting the way we work and live, providing real-time information and allowing the cities to become smarter, and making lives easier and more productive.

Mass Mobile IoT Deployments

There is a wide variety of various instances of large scale deployments in China all through a number of different sectors.

For instance, Sunsea AIoT with partner, China Telecom has installed more than 500,000 NB-IoT sensors taking charge of more than 37km in the Jing’an District, changing the area into a truly smart community.

The devices look out for fire hydrant water pressure sensors, gas and smoke detectors as well as other environmental monitors. Linked manhole covers also control gases and underground assets. An integrated platform monitors, centralizes and analyses the data to assist with real-time enhancements. China Mobile has installed over 100,000 NB-IoT intelligent fire alarm systems such as temperature sensors, fire alarms, smoke and gas detectors all through China; China Unicom has set up over 25,000 gas and water meters, making use of an NB-IoT solution which combines the IoT with big data to allow energy management to be more intelligent.
