The island of Bali, which is known for its beaches and is a popular holiday destination, now has been enhanced with 5G services through Indosat Ooredoo Hutchinson (IOH). The mobile network operator launched the service in line with Indonesia’s digital transformation plans.

Bali is now the sixth city in Indonesia whereby IOH has launched 5G services. The other five cities are Surakarta, Jakarta, Surabaya, Makassar, and Balikpapan.

According to Vikram Sinha, President Director & CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, IOH is committed to playing an important role in propelling the 5G revolution in Indonesia as part of the government’s digital transformation agenda. He added the launch is also a part of IOH’s contribution and support for the government of Indonesia as the host of the G20 Presidency while supporting Bali’s economic recovery.

IOH’s 5G services in Bali while also be applied to several use cases on the island. This includes use cases such as mixed reality entertainment, digital agribusiness through intelligent irrigation, fertilizer, and innovative agricultural tools. Other use cases include smart city sensor management, the smart environment through smart monitoring as well as fleet management services through mobility as a service for electronic vehicles.

IOH is partnering with Huawei, Habibi Garden, Temara, Sensync, Rakata, and Data28 to support all these use cases scenario.

Emulating the success jointly made in the IOH’s 5G launches in 5 previous cities, the Bali launch would introduce the latest 5G network solution in Indonesia, which is 1 Gbps FDD 5G Massive MIMO. This technology can increase data traffic capacity and user experience significantly.

For Jacky Chen, CEO of Huawei Indonesia, along with the digital ecosystem guided under the ‘I Do’ commitments, Huawei continues to contribute particularly to bringing the global latest technology to improve network deployment efficiency of the 5G service in Bali to support the G-20 Summit and at the same time drive forward Indonesian digital transformation to accelerate post-pandemic economic recovery.

In addition to launching 5G services, IOH is working with several institutions to support the digitalization of Bali. For example, Chief Business Officer Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Bayu Hanantasena carried out the signing of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with Udayana University, as well as the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Tri Dharma of Higher Education with the Indonesian Institute of Business and Technology (INSTIKI) and the Bali State Polytechnic (PNB). Meanwhile, Indosat Business signed an MoU with the Bali Regional Development Bank for the Digital Transformation of Financial Services.

Besides showcasing cutting-edge technology with all the partner’s collaborations at the G20 event, IOH also launched Travel On. This new product will allow foreign and local tourists in Bali to enjoy the convenience of using the internet, telephone, and SMS while exploring Indonesia with a powerful connection from Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison.
