The Public Works Department is embracing the digital connectivity to automate processes and improving customer services, including handling customer complaints and bill enquiries via the Internet.

In its press release, the department said the PWD has embarked on the national eBilling Integrated System (eBIS), one of the e-government project under the Ministry of Development.

eBIS will enable the department to automate the processes and services and provide structured workflow design to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the water and gas billing processes.

Among the major improvements to the customer services is the implementation of the spot billing. Bills are issued on the spot and given to the customer as soon as the reading is recorded at the premises.

Handling of metering and billing enquiries and complaints can be accessed via the internet. The website is expected to be online by November/December this year.

PWD said with the implementation of eBIS, the public can make payments at all districts Public Works Department payment counters. The department will also be introducing payment by credit cards.

Visas, Mastercard, American Express issued by any bank and debit cards issued by Baiduri Banks are all accepted.

eBIS will be implemented in stages at all four districts. Tutong District will use the new spot billing and eBIS on Aug 6 followed by Temburong and Belait Districts on Sept 1 and Brunei-Muara District on Sept 10.
