The e-Government Executive Training Programme for Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries commenced yesterday, organised by the e-Government Innovation Centre (eG.InC), University Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in collaboration with the e-Government National Centre (EGNC).

The opening ceremony, held at the Indera Samudra grand Hall of The Empire Hotel and Country Club, was attended by Dato Paduka Awg Hj Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Prime Minister's Office on behalf of Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awg Hj Mohammad Yasmin bin Hj Umar, the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office and Chairman of Brunei's e-Government Leadership Forum.

Also present were Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain bin Hj Hanafi, the Vice Chancellor of UBD; Awg Hj Azhar bin Hj Ahmad, Deputy Permanent Secretary (IT and e-Government) at the Prime Minister's Office; Awg Adi Shamsul bin Hj Sabli, Director of the EGNC; and Mr Choi Byung-Koo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei Darussalam; as well as speakers, senior government officers and principal officers of UBD.

The Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies, Dr Hazri bin Hj Kifle, delivered the opening speech.

The e-Government Executive Training Programme, which will be held every Saturday for four consecutive weeks, is aimed at equipping Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries from all ministries in Brunei with relevant knowledge and skills to realise a knowledge-based economy to respond to the ever-changing ICT environment.

The programme will focus on key management topics such as Industry Policy for Economic Diveesification, with particular emphasis on change management and international attitudes - attributes that are needed in spearheading the government in a dynamic environment.

The e-Government Executive Training programme gives Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries the opportunity to be trained by high-profile trainers including former Korean prime minister Dr Chung Un-chan who is currently the Chairman of Commission on Shared Growth for Large Corporations and Small and Medium Enterprise; Vice President of the Asian Development Bank, Mr Bindu Lohani; President of Green Korea 21 Forum, Dr Kim Myung-ja; Minister of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Dr Choi Joongkyung and other senior officials from internationally renowned institutions.
