“The National Data Centre is expected to consolidate services, applications and infrastructure to provide efficient electronic delivery of Government to Government(G2G), Government to Citizens(G2C) and Government to Business(G2B) services,” he said.

According to Honorable Muswere some of the services that will be provided to the industry by the National Data Centre include application and web hosting, 24/7 support for data and application availability ,centralized network and database management, security of private data and backup archival Services.

In spite of their importance to the African economy, data centers are still underexposed in the media, politics, government and society. The Deputy Minister went on to stress how a data centre will ensure the smooth implementation of e-governance.

“The National Data Centre has been identified as one of the important elements of the core infrastructure for supporting e-Governance initiatives,”

“By having an NDC the government of Zimbabwe will create its own private cloud that will be easy to manage and secure because everything will be run by the government. This NDC project resonates well with the national agenda of becoming a middle-income nation by 2030,” he said.

A data center is a computer facility designed for continuous use by several users, and well equipped with hardware, software, power conditioning and backup, communication equipment and security systems and implementing NDCs is beneficial in that it ensures reduction in the costs of running ICTs across government as all the ICT related work will be done centrally at the centre.
