A new multi-million pound 'Smart City Mobility Centre' is being established at the University of Warwick's Wellesbourne campus in the UK. This facility will be used to developer driverless capable and electric vehicle technology as part of a multi-million pound pilot programme in Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

It will prototype new vehicles and systems to support smart cities and tackle issues such as emissions, congestion and road traffic accidents. The project will combine the research and engineering capabilities of Jaguar Land Rover and the University's Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG). Testing of driverless capable vehicles will take place on the University of Warwick's campus in Coventry and Warwickshire. JLR and WMG will develop connected, driverless capable, prototype electric modular architectures, which will be tested in real world conditions alongside a 5G communications network on the University's main campus.
