  • GM: Report On Scaling-Up E-Government Data Centre, Others Validated

    The Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure in conjunction with various stakeholders Thursday met at a local hotel in Kololi, to validate the Feasibility Report and the Network Security Policy on the Scaling-up of e-Government Data Centre. The reports were prepared by an international consultant that carried out in-depth assessment and analysis of the existing computing and network environment in government and studied the feasibility of integrating e-government infrastructure and services in a more cost-effective and efficient manner.

    The consultancy was carried out under the 'Support to National e-Governance Strategy Project" by the United Nations Development Project (UNDP).

  • GM: Stakeholders validate proposal document on e-Government

    Officials from both the government and the international community have validated the proposed document on e-government project. The stakeholders converged Monday at the Paradise Suite Hotel for a two day forum to critically scrutinize the e-Government project proposal documents.

    Speaking through Ms Sirra Ndow, the UNDP resident coordinator, Ms Chinwe Dike noted that The Gambia has experienced significant development in the IT sector, a situation which has prepared the adequate and necessary environment for the launch of the e-Government project. According to her, “the enabling environment has been created through the provision of necessary legal and policy framework, and the implementation of various innovative initiatives and programs.”

  • GM:'14 Percent of the Gambians Get Access to Internet Which Is Very Low', DG Submarine Cable Compayn

    The Director General of the Gambia Submarine Cable Company, Lamin Jabbi, has revealed that only 14% of the Gambian population has access to internet and which, he said, is very low.He said this in his presentation at a one day forum to validate the draft report on the establishment of a National ICT Agency which was organized by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Infrastructure (MOICI) on the 27 November, 2014 at the Ocean Bay hotel resort at Cape Point.

    Officials from the ministry, internet service providers, GSM operators as well as other stakeholders validated the report.

  • Ministry Pushes Gambia's E-Governance Agenda

    The Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure Thursday engaged stakeholders across various Ministries and departments at a local hotel in Bakau to validate its feasibility study report on the establishment of a National Information Communication Technology (ICT) Agency.

    The Agency will seek to integrate all governmental functions through information and communication sharing via what is now called electronic governance (e-governance), thus eliminating unnecessary use of resources in certain governmental errands.

    The Chief of ICT Policy and Development Sector of the Science and Technology Division at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa, Sizo Mhanda, has expressed satisfaction at the level of awareness of e-government in The Gambia.

  • The Gambia set to establish national e-governance agency

    Officials from various government ministries and departments on Monday validated a feasibility study report on the establishment of a National Information Communication Technology (ICT) agency for the Gambia.

    The validation of the study, commissioned by the Ministry of Information and Communication, will pave the way for the establishment of an agency that will integrate all governmental functions through information and communication sharing via electronic governance thus eliminating unnecessary use of resources in certain governmental errands.
