The Utah Division of Motor Vehicles announced today that its On the Spot Renewal program has renewed one million vehicle registrations since its launch in 2005. The service is available through Utah.gov, the official Web portal for the State of Utah, offered at safety and emission inspection stations across the state.
Utah’s On the Spot Renewal is an online service used by more than 350 inspection stations statewide to renew vehicle registrations at the point of sale and issue a decal immediately. This convenient service allows citizens to submit a complete vehicle inspection and annual registration renewal all in one location in a matter of minutes.
“On the Spot was the nation’s first real-time registration renewal service offered where citizens are already having their vehicles serviced, and we are very pleased to have reached this significant milestone,” said Kevin Park, Assistant Director of the Utah Division of Motor Vehicles. “For five years, citizens have been extremely happy with the service and we’re also pleased to expand the service by now offering registration renewals for watercraft and off-road vehicles at select locations.”
As one of Utah.gov’s many online services, On the Spot Renewal represents an ongoing commitment to use technology to provide convenient and innovative resources to citizens. This service makes vehicle registration renewals as easy as getting a vehicle inspection or oil change, while providing stations the ability to add value to their customers’ experience.
In 2009, On the Spot Renewal was a selected winner at the National Association of State Chief Information Officers Recognition Awards. This prestigious award honors outstanding information technology achievements that promote innovation, exemplify best practices, foster better government, and provide cost effective services to citizens.
