The township’s updated Internet Web site (www.twp.freehold.nj.us) has been selected as the Best Web/Electronic entry of the 2003 Municipal Public Information Contest sponsored by the League of Municipalities.

Public Information Officer Sandy Belan said township officials were recently informed of the honor. Belan said she and Deputy Mayor Anthony Ammiano will attend a luncheon on Thursday and accept the plaque. According to a letter announcing the award, the contest judges found the Web site to be well organized, comprehensive and easy to navigate. According to the letter, "The quality of the site is something other municipalities can emulate for their residents."

The design of the Web site makes it easy to access various municipal departments through the Department Directory, a calendar of events, contacts and an around town site. The home page also includes an e-government site where residents can download forms and pay on line.

Ammiano said the new Web site has been in the design stages for at least a year. Andy and Tiffany Kelpner of Brighter Ideas, a technology design company based in Fairfield, worked with Belan, employees in the township’s technology department, members of the administration and the Township Committee to come up with the user-friendly design.

"The new Web site is much easier to navigate and find new information. They’ve added a drop down menu of frequently asked questions which is very helpful to anyone searching the Web site. Plus a new navigational bar makes it very easy to find township departments, all kinds of forms and links to other sites," he said.

Ammiano said he also likes the fact that the updated Web site makes it easy for residents to find out about the dates and times for Township Committee and board meetings.

"It is extremely user-friendly," he said.

The winners in three other categories were: Plainfield City for best special/innovative component; Randolph Township for best print component; and Middletown Township for best overall.
