The dashboards, developed by the city’s analytics specialists, provide up-to-date information about the status of coronavirus in Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States as a whole.

The Boston Department of Innovation and Technology’s Citywide Analytics Team has launched two dashboards that allow Boston residents to track the number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the city and throughout Massachusetts.

The first dashboard includes a day-by-day breakdown graph of the spread of Covid-19 in Massachusetts, and tracks daily updates from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) for the number of Covid-19 cases.

The second dashboard includes information specific to the City of Boston, including total daily cases, recovered cases and total cases over time. It also tracks the levels of testing done throughout the United States.

Keeping residents informed

Together, these dashboards aim to provide up-to-date information about the status of coronavirus in Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States as a whole.

They are part of a suite of digital tools available to residents, which include a texting service available in six languages, online city services and digital resources and factsheets.

"Ensuring residents have accurate, up-to-date information about the coronavirus is critical during this challenging time," said Mayor Marty Walsh. "These dashboards are another resource for residents to gather information and stay informed as we follow public health guidelines to keep ourselves and each other safe."

The dashboards are refreshed when public data is released by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and MDPH. The CDC updates its numbers on weekdays, and the MDPH does so every afternoon.

Tracking coronavirus

At the time of writing, 4,955 cases and 48 deaths had been recorded in Massachusetts, with 735 cases and two deaths in Boston.

Several interactive maps and resources have been launched to track up-to-date information and data on the virus, including the Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases map from the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University and the World Health Organization Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Situation Dashboard.
