Five Central Florida startups are among the 11 tech and innovation brands named to Plug and Play Orlando's "smart cities" batch this spring.
The local startups are Lit Thinking, Routix Inc. and SynMatter out of Orlando, Clermont’s Scan ID 365 and Mount Dora’s Intelligence Factory. Other participants include companies from Tampa, Sarasota and Colorado.
The cohort will take part in a 12-week program, through the end of May, before giving pitch presentations in front of an audience on June 5.
“The goal of the program is to help build a stronger innovation ecosystem in Central Florida by combining local talent with ideas from across the country and beyond,” a Plug and Plug spokesperson told Orlando Business Journal.
The startups, ranging in focus areas from mobility, sustainability, energy, construction and automation, were selected by representatives from Orange County Government, Duke Energy, UCF and Tavistock.
- Lit Thinking’s focus is the use of Ultraviolet-C (UVC) radiation “to mitigate the risk of infection from airborne pathogens” and build sanitation devices that create “safer, healthier and more productive indoor environments,” according to its website.
- Routix leverages a proprietary radio frequency (RF) wave technology and smart sensors to map environments and enable navigation for robots.
- SynMatter utilizes a NASA-developed technology to encapsulate environmentally friendly and effective corrosion inhibitors into inorganic microplastics.
- Scan ID 365 bridges the gap between tech and emergency care while allowing first responders immediate access to medical history through a user-controlled platform.
- Intelligence Factory provides AI consulting and development services to companies.
Lit Thinking, Scan ID 365 and Intelligence Factory are each part of the UCF Business Incubation Program.
Other startups named to the Plug and Play's third smart cities batch are:
- Improving Aviation,
- Maiven Energy,
- Tappy Guide,
- Tenex.AI, Valerann and
- Witching Hour.
"These 11 companies are tackling some of the most pressing challenges in mobility, energy, enterprise, [government] tech, deep tech and sustainability – driving real-world innovation that will shape the cities of tomorrow,” Plug and Play Program Director Rosangela Parker said in a statement. “Over the next three months, our goal is to provide them with the resources, mentorship and strategic connections they need to accelerate their growth and create lasting impact.”
Plug and Play, which launched in Orlando last spring, is a global innovation platform with over 60 locations. Its mission is to advance smart city technologies and foster collaboration between startups, corporations and local government.
