The centers to offer B2C services

Government of Haryana is in the process of setting up around 1200 Common Service Centres (CSCs) across the state by April 2008.

In its quest to set up a delivery platform for B2C and G2C, the government of Haryana is setting up 1159 rural CSCs and 104 urban CSCs.

Addressing the 11th National Conference on e-Governance on Thursday, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the rollout of e-Disha Ekal Sewa Kendras (CSCs) would be completed by mid-April 2008.

Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd is the State-designated agency for the execution of the CSC scheme in in the state.

When the scheme was launched in July 2007, it was said 1,159 rural and 104 Urban CSCs would be established in the state, including 275,267,294 and 323 rural CSC and 24,25,28 and 27 urban CSCs in Ambala, Rohtak, Gurgaon and Sirsa division, respectively.

It was also then announced that all the CSCs would be operational by April 2008.

The first CSC was opened at Chiken village, Pinjore Block in Panchkula.

B2C services, such as computer literacy, railway information, e-mail, net surfacing, DTP, printing, education and legal consultancy were initially provided to the villagers at nominal rates.

The services were later scaled-up.

e-Literacy target

“We have set a target to ensure that every person has adequate computing and communication skills. Haryana has emerged as the fastest growing state in the country with the highest per capita income,” Hooda said at the e-governance conference.

A recent report by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy puts Haryana on the top slot among all the states with highest per capita investment at $ 1963.

Speaking about the NeGP plan, A. Raja, union minister for communications and IT said that the Statewide Area Network (SWAN) has been approved with an outlay of Rs 3,334 crore and the common services centre scheme with Rs 5,742 crore.

Two days before to the e-Governance summit, the state governments of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh had launched the SWAN project.
