The Meghalaya government has planned to set up 225 Common Services Centres, mostly in rural areas, in a bid to pave way for e-governance in the state.

The government has issued the letter of intent in this regard.

"The CSEs are part of the two pronged strategy to develop the state's IT sector. The centres will provide government-to-citizen and business-to-citizen services like issuing certificates and licenses etc," an official said.

He said local entrepreneurs would run these Centres, the infrastructure of which will be set up by the government.

These centres will provide services at the doorsteps of the citizens and also serve as learning centres, he said, adding that very nominal rates will be charged from the citizens.
