The state administration has initiated an inquiry into the episode of tremors last week. Confirming that a letter had been sent to the met department, Ashutosh Apte, mamlatdar, disaster management and e governance, south Goa collectorate, said, "The five talathis in Sanguem taluka, in the areas where tremors were felt, have been asked to record statements of residents."
The statements are being recorded to gather details of the tremors. "The talathis will interview residents in the villages to understand the nature of the tremors," Apte said. At the local level in Sanguem, mamlatdar Amol Gaonkar is carrying out an inquiry into the incidents.
A few villages from Bhatti in the east to Pontemol, Sanvordem in the west across the Sanguem town experienced tremors, prompting residents to emerge from their houses at around 6.45am on Friday.
The disaster management cell has also written to state departments, including water resources department for information as part of the inquiry.
The met department has prepared a report on the tremors in Sanguem and sent it to its headquarters in Delhi. Confirming that he had received a letter from state administration, K V Singh, met department, director, said that it has been forwarded to headquarters.
"We have no data on the tremors as nothing showed on record on both days," Singh said. The local met department has enclosed press clippings of the incident in its report to the headquarters.
