According to an official release here, it is stated that at present tickets given in the government buses were of printed form. In order to ease the difficulty of the passengers in getting the tickets, it has been decided to issue tickets with the help of the Electronic Ticketing Machines in all government buses in the State. This facility would also help the conductors to issue tickets easily.
Further all details regarding the tickets issued in the government buses will reach depots, divisional and regional offices involved, through on-line. From these information, the heads of the departments can come to know about all details including the number of passengers in a particular bus, its seating capacity, distance of the passengers' destinations, bus stations and find whether the buses are operating on time.
As part of the initiative, 5,000 Electronic ticketing machines (ETM) will be bought.
As many as 250 depots, 19 regions and six transport department heads will be connected to an Central Operations Control Centre.
The Pallavan Transport Corporation's Advisory Committee has been roped in to carry out this task. For this, the State government will give Rs Rs 10, 30, 70,00.
This scheme is implemented with the collaboration of Union Road Transport and Highways Deparment and the share from the Central government would be Rs 9,37,00,000.
The government also asked the Pallavan Transport Corporation's Advisory Committee to expedite the tender process for buying Electronic Bus Ticketing Machines.
Since this is the age of internet and e-governance, this announcement from the Tamilnadu government assumes significance.
