GIS will allow city to track illegal settlements.
Hyderabad in India will release a city map in December, Surveyor General of India announced.
GIS mapping in all urban areas is the simplest way to manage urban issues, Swarna Subba Rao said, adding also that this will enable the state government to track illegal settlements in cities.
Delhi recently completed a 3D map using Lidar, he added. Lidar is a mapping technique that collects elevation data across landscapes using laser. “Lidar has reduced the amount of time taken to map an area from months to days”, he said.
