Transforming Government since 2001

Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) Chief Executive Officer Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav on Wednesday highlighted the projects undertaken under Smart Cities Mission Limited in Agartala city and projects undertaken verge of completion.

In an official statement, ASCL CEO Dr Yadav said certain development works including the AD Nagar Round Junction project, the transformer installation in Bidurkarta Chowmuhani, Cornel Chowmuhani footpaths, showrooms on the Astabal footpath, and related footpath evictions do not fall under its jurisdiction. “These matters fall under the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), and ASCL has no involvement in these activities whatsoever,” the statement stated.

Responding to allegations that its projects are “not smart enough,” ASCL stressed that it has successfully implemented 65 transformative projects under the Government of India’s Smart Cities Mission. “From the Integrated Command & Control Centre providing 24/7 CCTV surveillance to advanced traffic monitoring and flood management systems, our initiatives have significantly enhanced city security and emergency response capabilities,” the statement read.

Highlighting achievements in water management, ASCL pointed out that one Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is already operational, with five more under construction, aimed at substantially reducing water pollution. “Our Water ATMs provide affordable drinking water at ₹1 per litre, ensuring round-the-clock access to safe drinking water for citizens,” the agency said.

On claims that it had “merely painted parks” without substantial development, ASCL countered that it has undertaken “comprehensive water body restoration projects” at Ranirpukur, Chatrasagar, Three Ponds near MBB College, and Dimsagar, which have “significantly improved water quality while creating beautiful public recreational spaces.”

In the tourism and heritage sector, ASCL cited initiatives such as the Ujjayanta Palace Renovation, MBB College Revitalization, JN Bari Park development, and Albert Ekka Tribute, noting that these have preserved cultural heritage, boosted tourism, and generated employment. The ongoing Smart Road project covering 24.242 km incorporates smart traffic systems, energy-efficient LED lighting, green spaces, advanced storm water drainage, and underground utility integration.

“All 65 projects undertaken by ASCL are strategically designed to enhance urban living standards, promote sustainable development, boost tourism and economic growth, and improve public health and safety,” the statement said, adding that misleading information “damages the public image of ASCL and creates unnecessary confusion among citizens.”
