His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President of the UAE, the Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, opened Gitex 2009 and the Kingdom of Bahrain's Pavilion at the Dubai Convention and Exhibition Center Sunday morning which takes place from 18th to 22nd October.

The Bahrain Pavilion showcases different solutions and applications offered by the private sector to deliver integrated eGovernment services. This comes as part of the Kingdom's goal of increasing the pace of growth and development of the Kingdom's private sector in the field, as well benefitting from knowledge and experience exchange and spreading awareness about the high level of quality of Bahrain's services, in line with Bahrain's Vision 2030 of economic sustainability.

Mr. Ubaydli Al Ubaydli, head of the Bahrain ICT Suppliers Trade Association (BISTA) , commented: "Gitex week is a prestigious and important global event for our region. Government bodies, companies, and institutions are always eager to participate side by side with international companies in order to exchange and share experiences of other countries in this field"

Mr. Al Ubaydli pointed out that Bahrain's participation in Gitex is part of a 3-years plan in collaboration with the eGovernment Authority, in order to stimulate the private sector and encourage participation in such exhibitions focused on ICT, thus enabling them to reach customers outside the Kingdom and market their experiences and advanced technology products.

Another exhibitor, Mr. Ahmed Alhujairi, CEO of Gulf Future Business, said: "Our participation this year is indeed very special as 80% of participants are from the private sector. We are aiming to exchange the latest products and technological expertise with international companies at Gitex, one of the largest and most important exhibitions specialized in ICT". He noted that this participation will strengthen relations with other professionals in this sector, create and open up new markets, and increase technology awareness. In the end, he called everyone to stop by and visit the Kingdom of Bahrain stand at the exhibition.

The private sector's participation this year at the Kingdom of Bahrain's Pavilion, which includes Bahraini ICT companies, is directly supported by Tamkeen and (BISTA), an organization under the umbrella of the Bahrain Internet Society.

Gulf Future Business, Al Nadeem Information Technology, Microcenter, Exceed IT Services & Training, Bin Hindi Informatics, Computer World, HiTech, Al Moayyed Computers, Ascentech and ITMAM are participating in the Kingdom of Bahrain's Pavilion in addition to the eGovernment Authority.

Bahrain's first participation in Gitex came in 2007 with no participation from the private sector. The second year, however, the number jumped to 60%. As per the 3-year plan, this year's proportion of 80:20 of private sector versus government sector is the highest to date.
