An accurate and up-to-date database will be created to accelerate the process of organising public healthcare. It will indicate, for instance, the number of available hospital beds and the nearest hospital in the case of a major accident.
According to deputy chief medical officer Attila Kovács, who spoke on public radio about the fundamental aspects of the EU-funded, multi-million euro information system, the objective is for "the ambulance to not turn back at the hospital gate."
The records containing general practitioners and healthcare services will be updated, as well as existing national emergency numbers and the European emergency number 112.
The information system is scheduled to go live by January 2012 and will continue to operate until the network operator dispatch service is created.
