The Information Technology Authority (ITA) announced that it has opened its doors for the private sector establishments to take part in the Sultan Qaboos Award for e-Government Services Award 2012 by adding two categories at the third version of the awards.

The award aims at encouraging private and public sector establishments to develop their electronic services, simplify and enhance their procedures by implementing IT technology and encourage pioneering ideas in the digital fields.

The registration will be opened for the private sector establishments to compete for the award in the field of ‘The Best E-Service’ rendered to the public and ‘The Best E-Service for Mobile Telecommunications. The Best E- Service rendered to the public will be granted to the institution that provides electronic services to the public either citizens, expatriates or visitors.

They include simplifying procedures and simplifying the service.

The Best E-Service Award for Mobile Telecommunications will be awarded to the institution that uses the latest technology and encouraging new ways of rendering the services to the society in a bid to enhance the quality of service, ensure better exchange of information and transactions.

Dr Salim Bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, ITA CEO, said with the participation of private sector establishments for Sultan Qaboos Award for E-Government Services Award, will make the contest better among the companies to exert efforts to create a digital environment, provide new e-services for the different categories of society.

He added that an announcement will be made soon about official registration of the projects competing for this year’s award. He said that before the registration date, ITA will launch seminars that have been designed to raise awareness of the available opportunities for competing, how to submit the application and the criteria for taking part and evaluation and winning.

The Sultan Qaboos Award for e-Government Services 2012 will be divided into many categories in which the institution can compete for the best e-content, best e-economy, best e-developed institution, best e- project (individual project and joint project) and the best e-government service which falls in five categories namely the best e-service award, best e-government service rendered for the private sector, best e-service rendered to individual, the best e-service rendered to employees and the best e-government service rendered through mobile telecommunications.
