Fifteen senior government officers from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Union of Myanmar and Socialist Republic of Vietnam are attending a 'Managing With IT for Non IT Managers' course conducted by Civil Service Institute (IPA) from April 5 - 22.

The course is an initiative under the `Initiative ofAsean Integration' and IPA as a training institution in Brunei is given the mandate to conduct this course to equip the participants with latest knowledge, skills and attitudes in which they need to plan and implement government policies, projects and activities.

Asean leaders launched the initiative with the objective of narrowing the development gap between the old and new members of Asean. According to IPA, in its press release, the course is designed to help managers explore some of the capabilities of existing commonly used software's and to apply them in their daily tasks.

By the end of this course, the participants should be able to appreciate the various opportunities offered by computer software package; use various templates provided by the software's; integrate various elements of application with other applications; apply the stated knowledge and skills within their daily management tasks and further develop an action plan.

IPA stated that the aim of this initiative is to assist the new member countries in their development programme by assisting them in expediting greater regional economic integration, promoting economic development and helping alleviate poverty.

One of the priority areas focused for these countries on the Initiative of Asean Integration Work Plan is Information and Communication Technology, which covers ICT legislation and e-governance.
