The Federal Government, in partnership with MTN Nigeria, has unveiled a nationwide digital city platform, MyCityApp Nigeria, in Abuja, marking a new phase in efforts to deepen digital infrastructure and smart city development across the country.
Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, who led the launch in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday, described the platform as a strategic step in Nigeria’s digital transformation drive.
Developed by MTN Nigeria, MyCityApp is designed as a unified digital infrastructure connecting all 36 states and the FCT.
The platform provides access to essential city services, real-time civic reporting, emergency services, verified business listings, job opportunities, events, restaurants and urban mobility solutions.
Musawa said the initiative aligns with the administration’s digital inclusion agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reflects growing collaboration between government and the private sector to modernise urban living.
According to her, the application serves as a one-stop digital hub for residents and visitors, enabling users to discover and verify businesses, access city services, navigate transport systems and obtain real-time information on events and safety.
She noted that technology is increasingly shaping tourism, commerce and governance, adding that Nigerian cities must adapt to remain competitive and accessible.
Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, said the platform was built to enhance efficiency, safety and connectivity in urban centres.
He was represented at the event by ThankGod Otorkpa, General Manager, Regional Operations, North West (Sales & Distribution).
Toriola said the application was previously launched in Lagos State, where it recorded significant adoption, and would now be expanded nationwide.
He described MyCityApp as a transformative infrastructure aimed at improving quality of life by reducing travel time and emissions, strengthening citizen engagement and simplifying access to services.
“With MyCityApp, we are moving beyond connectivity into an era where technology drives access, efficiency and opportunity,” he said, adding that MTN would provide secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure capable of supporting millions of users as the rollout progresses.
The nationwide expansion underscores increasing investment in digital public infrastructure and signals broader opportunities for businesses, state governments and urban residents as Nigeria accelerates its smart city ambitions.
