The Cebu City Government’s goal for digital transformation gets a boost following an offer from a global tech giant and financial technology firm.
In a courtesy meeting with Mayor Nestor Archival, Huawei executives outlined their experience in deploying digital solutions across 700 cities worldwide.
Their proposals included intelligent traffic management systems, cloud-powered emergency services, and integrated one-stop shop platforms. A similar model has already been implemented in Makati accordingly.
Mayor Archival welcomed the idea but stressed the need for coordination between the City Planning and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices to build a unified platform.
“They showcased technologies that can enhance governance, education, healthcare, transportation, and public safety through AI and digital infrastructure. Smart government is the foundation of a smart city,” Archival said.
In a separate visit, PearlPay executives led by chairman Jonas Martinez and chief operating officer Pio Lumungsod presented digital finance solutions for schools, hospitals, small businesses, and rural banks.
Their platform enables secure, QR-based payments via GCash, credit cards, and local banks --eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices.
PearlPay emphasized that its systems can easily integrate with city operations once digitization is fully underway, offering real-time dashboards to monitor transactions across departments.
The company, which maintains an active office in Cebu, also expressed support for the city’s environmental initiatives, including tree planting and reusable tumblers for government employees.
Archival is also looking to find ways where they can collaborate.
“We are looking for practical and efficient ways to bring services closer to the people. Let’s find areas where we can collaborate,” he said, as he encouraged further dialogue to identify opportunities for integration.
