ASTARI, Poni Group’s Innovation Hub took part in the recently concluded Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Borneo Studies Network (BSN) Conference on June 3 and the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) Digital Future Conference and Exhibition on June 4-5 as part of the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2025 happening throughout June in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Aligned with the MTIC Strategic Plan to become a Smart Nation with the goal of ‘Enhancing Connectivity for Great Socio-Economic Opportunities, Creativity and High Quality of Life,’ ASTARI’s contributions underscore Brunei’s advancing efforts to embrace and promote a smart, digitally connected economy.

Brunei MYCE is a strategic platform for exploring cutting-edge technologies and digital integration initiatives supporting Brunei’s national development objectives under Brunei Vision 2035.

As a prominent homegrown innovation hub, ASTARI showcases its initiatives across sustainability, smart infrastructure, and digital transformation in the ocean, maritime and sustainability sectors.

At the BSN Conference, one of ASTARI’s key technology partners, Singapore-based Ixiono Pte Ltd Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Raja IRG, a seasoned tech entrepreneur with extensive experience in artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and smart infrastructure, delivered a featured talk titled ‘Digitally Transforming Cities with AI and Smart Infrastructure: Brunei as a Regional Roadmap’.

At the Digital Future Conference hosted by AITI, Raja presented ‘Unlocking Value Through Smart Infrastructure and AI: A Strategy for Digital Transformation’ and later participated in a high-level panel discussion titled ‘Innovating with IoT: Strategies for Business Growth and Value Creation’.

The session was moderated by Managing Director of Confer Sdn Bhd Allen Lai and featured representatives from both public and private sectors, including Vice-President of Government Affairs at Huawei Technologies Andrew Williamson and founder and CEO of Poni Group and ASTARI Mohd Tahsin Wong Abdullah (Thye), who delivered the opening scene-setting remarks.

Award-winning entrepreneur and national innovation advocate, Mohd Tahsin is recognised for his leadership in marine and maritime sustainability and continues to champion cross-sector innovation with digitalisation and AI applications through the ASTARI platform.

ASTARI’s growing ecosystem of international technology partners reflects its commitment to bringing global expertise and solutions to Brunei. These partners include Jejakin for carbon management and AI-driven analytics for biodiversity assessment; Ixiono for smart city and blockchain technologies; EGB Engineering for alternative fuel and decarbonisation strategies; and EarthSight International for next-generation satellite technology for natural disaster forecasting, mitigation and emergency first response technology.

In the maritime innovation space, ASTARI collaborates with Tenyn Ocean for remote vessel monitoring systems, ADS Environmental for hydrodynamic modelling, Clean Valley for algae bio-filtration solutions, and Nara Space for satellite-based maritime border security tools.

Through its ocean innovation initiatives, ASTARI is working with Reef Cloud on AI-driven coral monitoring, Arri Global on drone-based AI-driven ghost net detection, Stream Ocean on biodiversity AI video analysis, Reef Sound on coral AI acoustic monitoring, NatureMetrics on eDNA biodiversity testing, and Sofar Ocean on real-time ocean weather monitoring for advanced weather forecasting for efficient vessel routing.

ASTARI’s participation in MYCE 2025 and the technology conferences reinforces its strategic role in advancing Brunei’s digital transformation agenda. By leveraging emerging technologies and cultivating strong partnerships, ASTARI continues to deliver forward-looking solutions that support the development of resilient industries and empowered communities in line with the UN SDG 2030, Brunei Vision 2035 and Net Zero 2050 goals.

Professionals from government, industry, and academia have engaged actively in ASTARI’s sessions, reflecting growing interest in innovative approaches that will shape Brunei’s digital and sustainable future.
