The TMUs will be transmitting live video and audio of patients in the flood-ravaged areas of the province to health experts in Karachi or any other places through broadband link and the specialists after looking at the condition of patients will recommend medicines or other treatment.
This was stated by NDMA Chairman, Dr Zafar Iqbal Qadir while addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) regarding the formal launching of TMUs.
NDMA Adviser Abdullah Butt, Vice-Chancellor Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Dr Masood Hameed, Aman Foundation representatives and others were also present on the occasion.
NDMA Chairman, Dr Zafar Iqbal Qadir said that TMUs would be deployed in worst-affected areas due to cloud bursts in Sindh and the data of patients from those areas would be transferred to health specialists through wireless broadband or Edge based mobile internet.
“These vehicles are fully equipped with state-of-the-art biometric devices and high resolution video and audio live feed would help health specialists to diagnose and prescribe medicines to patients”, he added.
These two telemedicine units will be based in Hyderabad and Thatta locations, NDMA chairman said adding that specialists from more than 12 fields at the Dow University will be looking at those patients through video and data linkage.
“It is worth mentioning here that data of all vital organs and signs of the patients including heart beat, blood pressure, respiration and other required information would also be available to the specialists to diagnose the illness of patients.
Dr Zafar said that the NDMA had already successfully established the first telecare facility at Badin last month, which was inaugurated by Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza.
