
The Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has emphasized the determination of the Assembly to make Kumasi an example of a resilient urban centre and governance in Ghana through innovations, inclusivity, and sustainability.
This will be achieved by complying with policies and programmes that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
Mr. Boadi gave the assurance in Kumasi at the inauguration of the Ghana SDG Smart Cities District Implementation Committee.
The Ghana SDGs Smart Cities Programme is part of Ghana’s strategies to accelerate the country’s attainment of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs at the local level.
Inauguration of the Kumasi Smart Cities Programme Implementation Committee comes as a significant move aimed at speeding up Kumasi’s attainment as a smart and resilient city in terms of governance and sustainability, aligning with the SDGs.
Its overriding mandate is to develop and incorporate smart technologies, inclusive planning and innovative urban solutions in the programmes and projects of the KMA toward re-defining urban governance while enhancing the quality of life for the residents.
The Committee has a membership from academia, chieftaincy, local government, waste management, urban planning, and transportation.
Mr. Ofori Agyemang lauded the objectives of the Programme and pledged the unflinching support of the KMA for the Implementation Committee and success.
“We are poised to make Kumasi a shining example of innovation, inclusiveness, and sustainability”, the Chief Executive said.
A member of the Committee, Prince Aboagye, who is also a Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, appealed for the support of all stakeholders for the Committee to meet its target.
“The committee is ready and determined to meet the high expectations placed upon us”, he assured.
The Committee has up to the end of next year to complete its work.
