The national e-Government portal "Saudi", garnered the World Summit Award 2013 for e-Government and open data. The award was given in a ceremony arranged in Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital. The award was received by Eng. Ali bin Saleh Al-Soma, Director General of the e-Government Program (YESSER) and Eng. Mitrif bin Abdullah Al-Sahli, Director - Software Engineering.

The World Summit Award (WSA) is a global follow-up initiative of the United Nations Summit on Information Society. It partners with the key UN organizations and agencies in the framework of the UN Geneva Agenda and the Tunis Action Plan and selects and promotes the world's best e-Content and innovative ICT applications.

"Saudi" portal has been commended by the jury who said they were happy to present "Saudi" to the governments worldwide. They noted that the Portal's service architecture is well designed to serve its visitors.

During the Award ceremony, Eng. Mitrif Al-Sahli from Yesser, delivered a presentation on (Saudi) portal. He reviewed the most prominent features and services of the portal to citizens, expatriates , business and visitors in addition to open data. The presentation provided details on recent services offered by the portal including smart phone applications, e-participation etc....

Yesser participated in the panel discussions on e-Government updates, challenges, recent designs and smart phone applications.

More than 160 countries actively participate in the award. Through national pre-selections and contests together with a global jury process, WSA demonstrates the local diversity and rich creativity of ICT use.. WSA is a global hub for everyone who values the crucial importance of local content to make today's information society more inclusive.
