Riyadh Leads the Charge
Riyadh emerged as a frontrunner, climbing three spots to secure the 24th position globally, up from 27th in 2025. This advancement highlights the capital's rapid transformation into a leading smart city driven by modern technology adoption.
Notable Rankings of Other Saudi Cities
Other Saudi cities also made significant strides in the index:
- Makkah: Ranked 50th globally
- Jeddah: Secured the 55th position
- Alkhobar: Held the 64th place
- Madinah: Ranked 67th
AlUla stood out with remarkable progress, climbing from 112th to 85th in the global rankings. This leap underscores its ongoing development and growing prominence as a hub for tourism and innovation.
New Entries to the Global Index
For the first time, Hail and Hafr Al-Batin were included in the IMD Smart City Index. Their rankings—33rd and 100th respectively—demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing urban services across the nation. Overall, 148 cities were evaluated in this year’s index.
