The websites will make it easier to manage finances, including the payroll, National Security minister Chris Murungaru said yesterday.
The Internet will make it possible for Kenyans to vote online and strengthen the ability of the police to enforce rules and fight crime. A new information and communication technology programme will electronically link all government offices from the district offices for increased efficiency, Mr Murungaru said in a speech read by assistant minister Stephen Tarus at an ICT conference at a Nairobi hotel. The programme aims to put the Government on the fast lane towards electronic governance.
The advent of e-government will improve collaboration between government agencies and make the country more competitive by providing timely information and reducing the cost of transactions.
It will also encourage citizens to participate in state activities through opinion polls and surveys on government policy.
The State will develop an information infrastructure by installing local area networks in offices to facilitate electronic communication.
"This will eventually form the basis of a national information infrastructure that will allow for seamless communication in government," said Dr Murungaru.
Dr Murungaru said the implementation of e-governance precedes formulation of a national ICT policy.
"It will facilitate better and efficient delivery of information and services to the citizens and promote efficiency, effectiveness, transparency and accountability of exchanges within government, between the Government and the citizens and between the Government and business, locally and abroad," he said.
