Gambians would at last be able to view and listen to National Assembly sessions on radio, television and the Internet with effect from January 2007 as the proceedings are going to be broadcast live on the main media outlets. This was disclosed by the Honourable Speaker of the National Assembly, Belinda Bidwell, during the Thursday 10th August sitting, the third meeting of the National Assembly in the 2006 legislative session.

“The National Assembly is going to broadcast live and direct its sessions on radio, television and online in the Internet come January 2007,” she said.

She noted that the trial web cashing and life broadcasting shall commence during the next session, adding that the Assembly Authority has identified a lead consultant in the person of Dr. Katim Touray and the IT Company – Microsoft (G) Limited to guide and manage the web cashing project.

“Currently we are liaising with our key partners like the Embassy of the republic of China on Taiwan, the UNDP- Gambia Office, the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the Gambia government’s NICI and E-government project with the Department of State for Communication, Information and Technology,” the speaker disclosed.
