The Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament), Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, highlighted last Sunday in his speech, at the AU Summit, the approval by the Angolan government of its private electronic network project dubbed “e-Government”, as a means to improve transparency.

Speaking in representation of the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the 14th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), which kicked off on Sunday, Fernando Dias dos Santos highlighted that “e-Governo” (electronic governance) is aimed at strengthening the relationship of the government with its umbrella organs, the population and the private sector.

Besides this project, the speaker also referred to the launch of the construction in 2009 of the first “Level 3” Certificated Data Centre, which will enable the centralisation of the database of the State and safeguard the Internet Top field in Angola.

In the field of electronic governance, the speaker said that Angola won twice in 2007 and 2009 the TIGA AWARDS which is promoted by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Africa, which awards governments that employ Information and Communication Technologies in their services.

The summit is to end on 2 February and it is happening under the motto “Information and Communication Technologies in Africa, challenges and development perspectives”.
