Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Fred Fakari’i made the appeal yesterday at the launch of the biometric registration system.
While encouraging everyone to come forward and register starting in the new year, Mr Fakari’i urged everyone to be honest whe providing their personal details to registration officers.
He said those 18 years and above must come forward and register to vote.
Mr Fakari’i said training of recruits to collect data is now underway.
“People should not be scared of this new system (Biometric) because there are people at the registration centres who will assist,” he said.
Mr Fakari’i said he believed the use of the biometric system will reduce dishonestly and double voting.
The registration process is expected to start in the new year.
