The development of a website by the Ministry of Agriculture came in handy, as Government is gradually gravitating into establishing an E-Government infrastructure that will enhance efficiency and transparency in governance. Further, the Chairman of the National ICT Task Force, H.E the Vice President Chief Samuel Sam Sumana on behalf of H.E the President yesterday launched the draft ICT policy for Sierra Leone which demonstrates the importance Government places on information and Communications development.

SIERRA LEONE GOVERNMENT

SPEECH DELIVERED BY HON. IBRAHIM BEN KARGBO MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION AT THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE WEBSITE FOR THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE , FORESTRY AND FOOD SECURITY- FRIDAY 1ST MAY 2009

Mr. Chairman, Colleagues Ministers of Government, Our Development Partners, Staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, distinguished ladies and gentlemen.

I feel greatly honoured and elated to be called upon to officially launch the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) website in my capacity as Minister responsible for Information and Communications Technology. The development of a website for the Ministry of Agriculture is in tandem with my Ministry’s policy of re-branding our country by encouraging all sectors of government; be it Ministries, Departments and Agencies to be a part of the cyber village through an official website. That is why as a Ministry we facilitated the creation of the domain name: .Gov.sl for all MDAs to enhance uniformity and cohesion in our drive to actualize H.E the President’s agenda for change.

We cannot talk about E-Agriculture or E-Education for example, without having a policy to give us direction and a medium that will propagate the contents of these programmes within and without Sierra Leone.

With this breakthrough in modern information and communications technology, members of the public will be able to learn and understand the values the Ministry seeks to promote. Potential investors in Agriculture need not travel to Sierra Leone to seek information on this sector, but by the click of the mouse can download all the information needed to enable them achieve their desired goals.

I have been reliably informed that this website is the result of a collaborative effort among Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, FAO and other development partners. At this juncture, I wish to thank all those who have in diverse ways contributed to the success of this venture. It is my fervent hope that this website will be updated regularly to avoid the problem of keeping stale data on the internet about the country and the Ministry in particular.

With these few remarks, it now gives me the greatest pleasure to officially launch the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security website.

I thank you for your attention.
