CRIS was developed to address the needs of a modern Civil Registry, using technology to provide new services to the public while simultaneously reducing the Registry´s workload, increasing efficiency, and improving data accuracy and audit capabilities.
Registrar-General Mrs. Stephanie Benn explaining the benefits of the system to the Department of Information and Public Relations described the website as a source of "one-stop" shopping for the public that facilitates multiple Registry offices and provides online data entry and retrieval.
Mrs. Benn shared, "The website will provide information, allow printing of forms, and applications to be submitted electronically. Additionally, persons will be able to request certified copies of birth, death and marriage certificates by performing an electronic search that allow the applicant to collect the certificate from the Registry without any further paperwork or searches performed by Registry staff."
She further shared that, "Government departments will have custom interfaces that will allow them to access the CRIS database."
The staff of the Civil Registry and Passport Office has been working diligently to input the information into the system so that the website will be available for launch.
Government signed a contract with President, Global Isle Ltd. Mr. Ron Slocum for $148,200.00 in May of 2010 for the installation of the CRIS. The implementation of the CRIS is another sign of Government´s commitment to improving customer service in the public service by extending e-government initiatives to vital services.
