The new body will seek to support the efforts of local governments, research centers, universities, and the private sector in making use of ICT infrastructure to create jobs and economic opportunities. It will also carry out internet service programs as well as running the government’s e-governance initiatives.
The government says it will allocate a large sum of money to the ministry, known locally as SENATICs, in order to realize its goal of using ICT to improve living standards in Paraguay. The new Ministry will benefit the education and healthcare sectors, stimulating growth in the overall economy, SENATICs explained in a press release.
“The passage of this law is to strengthen state policies on ICTs, as they may be promoted more widely and effectively, seeking to improve the quality of life of the population and contribute to sustainable development of the country,” the government said.
Paraguay has recently hosted several international events to encourage investment in its ICT sector, such as HUBCON 2012, an ethical hacking conference that focuses on the best practices to protect information flow from current threats.
