Transforming Government since 2001
A multi-million pound fund to improve public services in Wales was announced yesterday by Welsh Assembly Government Finance and Public Services Minister, Sue Essex.

A total of £3 million is available in each of the next three financial years to support joint working in public service projects across Wales. The fund will assist projects that improve public services and stimulate significant change from better ways of working and innovation.

Sue Essex said: "This Fund encourages the public sector to work together to improve services. Collaboration and co-operation are a fundamental part of our reform agenda for public services in Wales, Making the Connections. By working together, providers of public services can produce the best results for Wales both in services provided and in terms of efficiency.

"Bids for funding are being invited now for preparatory research and feasibility work on projects. In this first round, I want to encourage bids that aim to deliver better value for money and projects that will lead to more efficient use of resources and more effective service delivery.

"I am keen to see proposals relating to shared services, arrangements for service delivery at regional or national levels, joint procurement and commissioning or management of capital assets. These areas have great potential for improved efficiency and scope to replicate the benefits more widely across Wales.

"The Fund is part of a wider package of measures supporting the Assembly Government’s vision for public services in Wales. Value Wales has been set up to improve public service efficiency and Public Services Management Wales is preparing tomorrow's public sector workforce."
