The new GRO website tells people clearly and simply how to register a birth or death in England and Wales, how to go about getting married, and how to get copies of the certificates for these vital events in peoples lives. It also offers guidance on the services provided by the Family Records Centre. The website, launched in May this year, saw off competition from the Pensions Service, Inland Revenue and Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
The award was collected by Communication Divisions Simon Dickson and Austin Hayes of GRO, at a lunchtime ceremony at the Paddington Hilton Hotel.
Announcing the shortlists in June, judges had described the site as a pleasant surprise better presented, more appealing and more feature-laden than would have been expected. This was in stark contrast to a survey just six months earlier, which counted GROs former website among the worst in e-government.
Im delighted that the hard work of the last year or so in GRO, in Communications, and in Information Management Group has been recognised by our fellow professionals, said Simon.
The new GRO site represents the future of our online activity in terms of technology, style, process and presentation. If there was any doubt before, this award proves were on the right track.
