Bracknell Forest Borough Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Lichfield District Council with Staffordshire-Moorlands District Council have been named 2004 short-listed entries for the prestigious Local Government IT Excellence Awards.

Organised by Intellect, Socitm and Solace, and now in their ninth year, the awards seek to highlight the use of best practice in local government and how IT has been used both effectively and innovatively to deliver Best Value public services. The awards are being supported by Intellect member companies Cable & Wireless UK, Capita IT Services, Comino Plc, INPUT, OKI Systems (UK) Ltd.

This year's awards have received entries from a wide selection of local e-Government projects. The Judging Panel met last week to judge this year’s entries and selected three short listed entries. Announcement of the winner and presentation of awards will take place at the Socitm Annual Conference in Edinburgh on 12 October 2004.

Charles Ward, Intellect's Marketing and Services Director, and member of the judging panel said:

"The short listed entries all demonstrated the right combination of innovation, utilisation of resources, alignment with eGovernment objectives, value for money and practical benefits in terms of both process improvement and service to the citizen."

The short listed entries are, in alphabetical order:

  • Bracknell Forest Borough Council, BF AnyWhere - Bracknell Forest Flexible Working Portal

BF Anywhere is a Web-Based Portal, which supports new flexible working initiatives for Bracknell Forest Borough Council staff. The Portal provides secure access to offices systems, regardless of physical location, greatly improving work/life balance whilst raising the standard of services available to citizens and other consumers of the Council’s services.

  • East Riding of Yorkshire Council, My Eastriding - Citizen Access to Transactional Services

MyEastriding provides access via an authenticated logon to personalised location based information together with front and back office integration allowing customer access to the Authority’s CRM. In addition there are facilities for the customer to make payments, track identifiable service requests and link to pertinent local information.

  • Lichfield District Council with Staffordshire-Moorlands District Council, The First Joint Procurement of IT Services

This is believed to be one of the first ICT outsourcing to be commissioned jointly by two councils (Lichfield District Council and Staffordshire-Moorlands District Councils) resulting in the award of a five-year partnership contract with one of the market leaders in the public sector environment.
