Minister of Social Development and Human Security advances Smart City vision under BCG and ESG frameworks
On Friday, Nikorn Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), visited Phase 1 of the Din Daeng Urban Renewal Project (Building G). During the visit, he announced a drive to transform "Din Daeng" into a Smart City under the BCG (Bio-Circular-Green Economy) and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) frameworks. The minister also met with elderly residents and vulnerable groups to offer encouragement. He was welcomed by Taweebhong Wichaidit, governor of the National Housing Authority (NHA), along with senior executives at Building G, Mitmaitri Road, Din Daeng district, Bangkok.
Mr Taweebhong revealed that the Din Daeng Urban Renewal Project is progressing in accordance with the National Strategy (2018–2037) and the Din Daeng Community Renewal Master Plan (2016–2024). The initiative aims to revitalise the original site into a liveable, safe urban community capable of supporting future urban expansion. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding sustainable cities and communities, ensuring equitable access for all. This project is a core mission of the NHA in executing the minister’s proactive housing policy, which seeks to expand comprehensive housing opportunities and provide high-quality homes at affordable prices.
The Din Daeng Urban Renewal Project has shown tangible progress across several phases regarding housing for original residents (totalling 6,546 units):
- Phase 1 (Building G): Completed and occupied.
- Phase 2 (Building D1): Completed and occupied.
These milestones reflect a significant upgrade in housing stability and standards for long-term residents.
Regarding current operations and future plans, the NHA is moving forward with several residential buildings currently under construction, including Building A1 and Building D2. Furthermore, the NHA is planning Phases 3 and 4, which will accommodate both original and new residents, totalling 20,292 units.
Specifically, the development of 13,746 units for new residents is designed to generate revenue to support the overall project investment. The NHA is currently updating the master plan and conducting feasibility studies for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to ensure efficient development and elevate the Din Daeng community into a high-quality, sustainable urban area.
"The National Housing Authority is committed to developing housing while simultaneously strengthening the community under BCG and ESG principles. We are focusing on environmental friendliness, efficient management and financial balance to drive the Din Daeng community toward becoming a Smart City. By utilising technology and innovation that meet the needs of the people in every dimension, we aim to improve the quality of urban life and establish this project as a model for sustainable, safe, and liveable housing for the future," Mr Taweebhong concluded.
