New website was introduced in Lithuania where all Lithuanian residents, patients, physicians and employees of healthcare institutions will be able to find any kind of information regarding implementation and services of the National Electronic Health System (NESS).

The website Esp.sam.lt is a simple instrument to introduce implemented and planned eHealth services, present all novelties, and answer questions in order to make eHealth services more accessible and useful for residents and speciālists, writes ELTA.

Physicians, administrators of healthcare institutions, and employees of the healthcare system in general will be also able to discuss various problems and issues in the Forum section on the web page.

"Like all other eGovernment services, eHealth services often require additional clarifications. We are sure that this website will help all interested parties to understand how IT and its solutions in healthcare, e.g. NESS and other elements of the project eHealth services, will function and how they will ensure accessibility and quality of the healthcare services for the patients all over Lithuania. The website will contain news about the project, legal acts and their drafts, links and other useful information," Evaldas Dobravolskas, the executive manager of the project, said.

Lithuania is the first Baltic country, which developed eHealth system development strategy for the period 2007-2015, and started its successful implementation.

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania is implementing the project eHealth services to accomplish the goals foreseen in this strategy. Creation of the website Esp.sam.lt forms the part of this project.

The project eHealth Services is supported by the Republic of Lithuania (6.617 million litas) and is partly financed by the European Union (8.578 million litas).

eHealth is a know-how in healthcare, medical informatics and management intended to improve healthcare services, to ensure rapid data exchange through the Internet and other similar IT means, which are necessary for the provision of healthcare services.

Currently the implementation and development of the NESS elements, which guarantee the continuity of healthcare services to patients in Lithuania, is of outmost importance.
