Texas.gov, the official website of the State of Texas, was ranked as one of the Top 10 in the Center for Digital Government’s annual Best of the Web competition for government portal excellence. The 2010 Best of the Web competition recognizes the most innovative and user-friendly state Web portals and was conducted by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government. “We are excited with the results and proud that Texas.gov was recognized for the innovative, streamlined way it provides Texans with access to government services,” said Doug Holt, Texas Department of Information Resources deputy executive director for statewide technology services. “Our efforts to significantly redesign and rebrand Texas.gov this year are paying off.”

Sites are judged on delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for improved citizen access. Representatives from the Center for Digital Government and officials from the 2009 Best of the Web-winning state and local governments served as judges for this year’s competition.

“This skilled use of the Web embodies the spirit of the Best of Web awards and provides examples to state and local government leaders around the country on how to bring quality services to their citizens while containing costs,” said Cathilea Robinett, executive director of the Center for Digital Government.

Texas.gov offers an easy, convenient way for Texans to access more than 1,000 online services, including Driver License Renewal, Vehicle Registration Renewal, and Birth Certificate Orders. Users can even access Texas.gov on-the-go through the Texas.gov iPhone application. Texas.gov is a single, comprehensive online resource that makes government available to Texans anytime, anywhere.
