The Jammu and Kashmir Bank today signed a Master Service Agreement with the government of J&K to act as a Service Center Agency for implementing the Central Government Sponsored E-governance Plan.

The Agreement was signed by Dr Haseeb A Drabu, Chairman J&K Bank and Mr Arun Kumar, Administrative secretary It, Govt of J&k. The signing of the agreement took place in the presence of the Chief Minister, Mr Omar Abdullah. Mr Devendra Rana, Political Advisor to the CM and officials from the IT department were also present on the occasion.

The CSC scheme of the e-governance plan envisages setting up of 1106 Common Service Centers through eligible Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) in all the 22 districts of the state. The service centers will be provided with adequate IT infrastructure for providing various governmental, educational, health and financial services to the rural populace of the state. The J&K bank is the only bank in the country which has been entrusted with the job of implementation of the scheme.

Commenting upon the advantages of the scheme to the state, Dr Drabu said that,” In the first place, the Initiative will provide self employment opportunities to about three thousand educated youth. The services provided through these centres will enable a cross section of people to avail various services like access to revenue records, e-learning courses, e-commerce, telemedicine etc at their doorstep. The Bank will also finance the prospective entrepreneurs for setting up of State of the art centers.

While appreciating the efforts of J&K bank in taking up this initiative, the Chief Minister said that the scheme will put all our villages onto a Information Superhighway and the benefits of the service centers would touch almost every person. He wished all success to J&K bank in all its initiatives and hoped that the Service centers shall be made operational within the deadline of one year.
