The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh will provide the facility of charging stations for battery operated vehicles in all cities. The state government has asked the urban development department to make arrangements for charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) in all cities. The process of giving land to service providers for e-charging facilities has also been decided.
Land will be available on lease without any charges
First of all, the work of making charging stations will be started in selected cities under Smart City across the state. Later it will be taken to all the municipal bodies. The state government will give land on lease to the institutions without any fee for setting up charging stations. The lease period will be for 10 years.
The institutions will be selected on the basis of open tender. The land will be given on priority basis to the institutions providing charging facility to the consumers at the least cost. Revenue sharing model will be worked with government institutions.
The scheme will be implemented in 17 municipal corporations
According to Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, under the Central Electric Mobility Plan (CMEP), this scheme will be implemented first in all the 17 municipal corporations of the state. All these municipal corporations come under the Smart City Mission. Along with this, it will be implemented in other municipal bodies coming under the mission. A special working group has also been constituted for fast track development of charging infrastructure.
More number of EVs, less charging stations – officials
The state government had earlier approved the proposal to provide charging facility of electric vehicles to various petroleum companies at their filling stations spread across the state. Officials of the Urban Development Department say that in view of the increasing number of EVs, the charging facilities in the state are less and are also getting expensive. To remove this deficiency, the state government has decided to provide this facility by providing land itself.
