Transforming Government since 2001
His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, emphasized the importance of adopting the advanced technologies showcased at Gitex Technology Week as a strategic need to develop the UAE as a competitive knowledge-based economy in line with the UAE Vision 2021.

He said the strong response to the Ministry of Economy's showcase at Gitex highlighted the public's awareness on the importance of e-services. "This year, the Ministry of Economy presented a new cross-section of high quality and efficient online services which will be made available to residents and businesses alike. We also aimed at building strategic partnerships with global IT companies to enhance the efficiency of our e-services. At Gitex, we also strengthened cooperation opportunities with many partners from the local and federal sectors to share best practices and experiences," he added.

Mr Al Mansoori said more than 150 manufacturers in the country registered at the website www.madeintheuae.com, which will help them to promote their factories, products, and services. It enables UAE manufacturers to reach and connect with a global audience of buyers. Made in the UAE is supported by the Ministry of Economy, Dubai eGovernment and Tejari.

The Ministry has also showcased the Electronic System for Goods Monitoring which gained much attention from senior officials and businessmen at Gitex. This advanced project connects the Ports & Customs and the Ministry of Economy and centres of major retailers, enabling the Ministry to counter any attempts at potential monopoly practices by negotiating with suppliers or distribution outlets.

Another highlight was the issuance of Arabic Certificates of Origin online. This service offers flexible procedures for investors thus further enhancing the investment environment of the UAE. With this service, the merchant or the producer can apply online and request for a certificate of origin, and update or change the contents of the request for the certificate any time. This procedure is available in both English and Arabic languages.
